Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Discharged from Medical Facility in Nigeria Following Fatal Car Crash

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities confirmed on Wednesday evening. The fighter was caught in a vehicular crash outside Lagos on December 29th, a devastating event that claimed the lives of two of his team members.

Under Observation for Minor Injuries

The boxer had remained in the hospital while recuperating from non-critical injuries, representatives stated earlier on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on social media that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.

“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two deceased friends as they were being prepared for repatriation,” the commissioner stated.

Honoring the Deceased

The two men who died were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and overcome with emotion over the tragic loss of his two close friends.”

His release from the hospital follows the global fight fans had expressed sympathy for the fighter in the aftermath of the heartbreaking incident.
