Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with results this poor.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
