Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.

White House Invitation

The president explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Attendees came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support policing efforts in DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to assist people.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Government Revisions

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.

Status of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” the governor informed the audience at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
