Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
