A technical fault at the airport's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the hub.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were stopped due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
