3 Game Pass Games That Can Justify Your Subscription This Weekend (Nov. 21-23)
Following the latest price increase for Game Pass Ultimate, the initial uproar has calmed down. While it might not be seen as the absolute best offer in gaming now, the platform has welcomed a number of high-profile launch day games recently, such as Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2. Those titles only enhance a massive library of numerous games perfect for weekend gaming binges.
Our current recommendations include a therapeutic action game, an prize-winning independent gem, and a must-play HD-2D RPG.
Sniper Elite: Resistance
Every so often, everyone needs a bit of catharsis. Over two decades, the Sniper Elite series has provided exactly that. Rebellion Developments' enduring shooter line presents players ultraviolent carnage targeting Nazi forces. Recently, the studio launched Sniper Elite: Resistance, a timely new entry to the series. Although it doesn't reinvent the formula, Resistance remains a well-constructed serving of immersive sim World War II sandboxes packed with Nazi objectives. The long-range combat is as visceral and satisfying as ever, featuring the series' signature killcam showing each shot's effect in gory, testicle-crunching detail. It's a violent thrill for every peace-lover looking to unwind in the safety of a digital world.
1000xResist
1000xResist presents an award-winning story touching on post-pandemic life, family trauma, and other deep themes. It approaches these subjects through a sci-fi perspective; you assume the role of Watcher, one of multiple clones of Iris, the only person left of a pandemic that eradicated humanity. Watcher and her sister clones delve into Iris's memories from the time Earth was beset by that horrific disease, as well as memories of her school and family life, neither of which were bearable for a teenager. Watcher discovers Iris isn't what she appears, and the story develops from that point. Should all that mystery isn't enough to hook you, the game indeed start with a killing. What could be a more compelling start than this?
Octopath Traveler 2
Yes, finishing a gazillion-hour RPG in only over a week is a tall order, but if there's any game deserving attempting the grind for, it's Octopath Traveler 2. Square Enix's visually striking masterpiece is departing Game Pass at the end of November (as is the first game, which is also included). However, with a holiday in the midst, at least for players in the U.S., it's theoretically achievable. Octopath Traveler 2 follows 8 characters, each embodying a distinct genre. You'll find a procedural tale about a priest looking into the murder of his cathedral's head priest. A trader aiming to solve destitution through the power of commerce stars in a western-themed narrative. Additionally, there's a mystery about an herbalist with amnesia (since all great RPGs require a hero with an mysterious background, naturally). A few of these stories connect in surprising, intriguing ways, as you play through a stunning Industrial Revolution themed setting. And the battle system is excellent — “number go up” boiled to its essence.
